vogue Jacket 8714

It is raining like crazy outside, which is odd for us... I live in Utah and we usually have two or three feet of snow this time of year..and below zero temps..but this year we have no snow and it is in the mid 4o's and raining...go figure... Well I thought since I can't run outside today, I would take a few minutes to post this jacket I made a while ago. I love linen ! I bought this fabric last year at Jos and when I found this pattern I fell in love with it... I thought the two would go great together. It is Vogue 8714. It was very easy to make and has a vest I thought would be fun to try... I thought this would be cute with jeans{ when I can get them back on} Or a jeans skirt. I'm working on a BWOF dress right now and I am super excited about it. Hopefully i can post it in a few days...

wow... I just noticed that my last post was on the 12th of Nov. [my birthday].... I can't believe its been that long. One reason why I haven't posted much is because I have gained back all the weight I lost, and well it just isn't that fun for me to take a picture of myself when I feel so yuckey. So I went back to weight watchers to day and i thought that if I posted each week my weight loss[ hopefully] I would stay on track. That being said I am only going to post pictures of finished projects on the dress form... maybe if I have a good day i will take my picture in them but for now just the dress form... I have been doing a lot of sewing and will post somethings tomorrow,, I hope everyone had a great Christmas holiday...

burda 7401

Here is Burda 7401. I made this a while ago but I have been wearing it a lot lately. I used some 100% linen I bought from Fashion Fabric.com a long time ago. I bought it because the color was what i was looking for and it was only $3.95 a yard. It was not very good quality> I should have known that for that price it would be mediocre. I love to wear this color with jeans so I thought it turned out okay. The coat you can see hanging on the right of this picture is a vintage coat I found on e-bay for $7.00 Love it ... i will leave that to another post....

This pattern was a lot like the vest I posted a while ago. It has pockets on the sides which I sewed shut because they were really droopy...the fabrics fault. The sleeves are just rolled up to make it really casual.

Here you can see the back peplum. It is cut on the bias which makes it hang great. All in all it was pretty easy to make .

This is my beautiful daughter and my grandson who just won their football game against their rival. Aren't they cute? He is such a great kid. And my daughter is the best daughter in the world....love them both!! Just thought I would post their picture. High School football is so fun.

The chair in a minute but first this is the picture of the sound board I covered and put some of my race numbers on. I have kept most of them. I saw a picture in a magazine once of a Doctor's office that had an entire wall covered with race numbers ....I will never have that many but I thought it was a great idea. I even have my ribbons hanging there.

These are some pictures my mother had of my sister and I. these frames were originally painted gold. I got out my trusty can of white spray paint and repainted them. I have them on a wall in my new swing room. Can you guess which one I am?

remember this old chair? They had it at work..... oh for about 50 years. It was very dirty and broken. My boss said I could have it so it was free. Don't you love free? I removed the arms and recovered it in a black and white damask that I found at Joann's for 50% off. I also had a coupon for 10% off your total purchase ....wooohoo Total cost $15.

I had a little fabric left over from my pressing table . so I made a little pillow .

Love this fabric!!!!

Closer look at the pillow before I put the button on it. I put some black rick-rack around it , but I wish now I would have used ball-fringe.

I have been doing some sewing but not as much as I would like. I have had this decorating bug lately. You know how you do one room and then then you just want to keep going? That is how I have been feeling. I had planned to run the Top of Utah Marathon on the 17th, but I have injured my piriformis muscle. What is that you say ? lets just say it is a pain in the but...literally. I am not giving up though, I am going to take it easy for a while and then start training for the Ogden Utah marathon in May. Until then I have a lot of sewing to do.

For some reason my last post did not show up.. I'm sure it was not me..ha..ha.. so I'm just going to do it again. This is Burda 7399. I made it from a wool rayon blend that I bought three or four years ago from Fashion Fabrics.com.

Here is the view of the back . The back peplum is cut on the bias..which I love.. it makes it hang well.

the pattern had you use 1/4 inch ribbon for the ties. I didn't like that idea, so I just made ties out of bias strips of the fabric.

The pattern called for pockets which I also love but not in this vest with this fabric. I thought it might droop to much. I kept the stitching at the bottom which makes the bottom of the pocket.

I also bound all the seams inside with bias strips of lining.

Another front view. Okay I'm not liking this size font. I don't think I'll be using it again, but I'm not about to redo this post for the third time. Thanks for visiting!

Great easy vest

This picture was to be at the end of my post...sorry.. this is my old free chair I painted yellow and made a simple little pillow for it.

This is a vest I just finished. It is Burda 7399.I've had this fabric in my stash for about 4 years. It is a butter color wool and rayon blend. I love this color ...the reason why I bought it in the first place...but I don't like it next to my skin. So a vest and tee worked great. I have enough left over to make a great skirt. Oh I purchased the fabric at Fashion Fabrics.com, my favorite online fabric source.

There is meant to be pockets in this vest, but I chose to eliminate them, I knew in this fabric they would end up being very droopy. I however did keep the top stitching at the bottom that forms the bottom of the would-be pocket.

Side view. The back is shorter than the front and the piece is cut on the bias, so it hangs really nice.

The pattern called for forth inch ribbon for the ties, I didn't like that so I made ties out of bias strips of the fabric.

I bound all the edges inside with bias strips of lining that matched. All in all this was an easy vest that looks great with a tee and jeans.

Sewing room Redo

Well here we are . The before picture. It looks much worse than this in person!

In the middle of painting.

I must say this room looks a lot better is person. I will probably never see it this clean again.

This will be my little sitting corner.

I added two pegboards to put things I use a lot. I didn't like the raw edge showing so I glued some yellow cording around it.

I found this chair for free!!! Yippee. I'm going to sand it down and paint it the color on the spray can.

I'm going to put some family photos on this wall so Susie won't be lonely.

I picked this up at Joann's at what I thought was a 50% off sale. When I got home a realized it rang in at full price I took it back , but i found out it wasn't on sale at all{I really need to look at the signs better!] I decided to keep it anyway.

This little jewel I picked up at a salvage store. I cost a whole 4 dollars. I am going to paint the metal black and get a new lampshade.

This is going to be a little sitting area to do handwork, or look at patterns or just sitting. I am going to take the arms off this chair and recover it.

I am going to recover that ugly chair with one of these. I guess I shouldn't say ugly... I got the chair for free!!


Here is my press board that I recovered with a heavy yellow cotton. I have loved this board. It is a piece of pressed wood, covered with an old wool blanket and then covered with the cotton. One more thing I am going to hang on the wall is a covered piece of soundboard that I am going to put all my race numbers from running on. I am so excited about it I can't wait to show you.

Here is Burda 7531

I first saw this pattern that Shannon from Mushy Wear posted.Love Shannon's blog. She is great! She sews and runs. Two things I am passionate about, plus she lives in Hawaii!!! How good could it be? Anyway her version is much cuter than mine,. The fabric I chose was from Joann's . I think it is a cotton rayon blend .

I rely need to find something to wear with it. This is all I had, can you say BORING? Oh well I have the whole week off work so i am going to paint my sewing room. I am so excited. I will for sure show you the before and after. Hopefully I will have time to post a few more things. It has been a busy summer for sure.

Here is the back of the pattern . There is horizontal dart in both front and back. The pleat has it's own piece which I did not like. I'm not sure I will make it again.

. This is a top you can whip up in a couple of hours. It is not so great but I have to say I have worn it a lot. I have gained some of my weight back, so I won't show you a picture of me in it. I am training to run a marathon on the 17th of Sept. so I hope it comes off quick!!

I am going to paint my sewing room the first week of August.{so excited] I haven't done a lot of sewing this summer. I have been working a lot and have done a ton of yard work. I have also been running more. I wish i had time for everything.

My grandson is on an LDS mission in San Fransisco. He is speaking Mandarin Chinese. He absolutely love it there and loves the people. If you are in SF and see these cute missionaries please take time to visit with them!!! Well off to cook dinner Happy sewing all. P.S. Sorry that I have been rambling.

This little number I have had finished for about three months. I have been doing a lot of sewing , but I am so bad at posting. Life has been very busy at the Hunter house. My grandson left for the MTC in Provo Utah on the 30th of March. He is doing so well and loves it there. He is learning mandarin Chinese , and will be leaving to go to San Francisco the last of June. I am going to miss him so much!!!
Now back to sewing. I bought this double knit online from Fabric.com. It was perfect for this type of dress. It worked up super quick and is so comfy.

The back tab. I almost didn't put this on. But it would have been very boring without it. I did cut it down about 5/8 ' al the way around. Topped it off with two buttons from my stash.

I think if I make this again , I would add two inches to the cowl neck. It seems a little skimpy.

I top stiched the hem . I've got a lot more to post if I can get my act together. this dress was fun and I might make it again in a black and gray double knit.

Instant gratification vest

I wanted to make a vest and quick. This pattern Simplicity 2633 fit the bill. I used a cotton blend sear sucker fabric I got at Joann's for $1.50. Can't beat that! I was going to line it but I wanted to finish it fast, so I opted for hong kong finishes instead. Well that wasn't fast!! Even though no one will ever see the inside but me, it makes me smile when I put it on, so it was worth the extra effort.

I wanted to make hand worked button holes. I even practiced for two weeks. Lets just say I still need to practice. I opted for bound buttonholes.

Since I made the sleeves a little short, I just added a cuff.

There was only on thing that I wanted to make sure I finished this winter and and this is it.
I bought this cream wool at Joann's last year at an end of season clearance sale. I knew this was the pattern I wanted to use. I love Sandra Betzina jacket patterns. They are cut higher in the armhole which makes them so comfy. She also does not put a ton of ease in the sleeve cap. I did lengthen the sleeves, but they still came out a little short. No worries, I just added a cuff. I have very, very long arms and I like my jacket to be a little on the long side.

Here is a picture of my grandson Brooks in between my husband and I.

My grandson Brooks, just got his mission call! Anyone who is of the LDS faith knows what this means. When young men turn 19, they have the opportunity, if they choose, to serve a two year mission for the church. He was just called to the California San Francisco-Oakland Mandarin Chinese speaking mission. We are so proud of him! He is the greatest young man. All the people of the San Francisco area are so lucky to have him there! Okay back to cleaning. I have today off work and I have lots to do I hope I can get a little sewing in ............Bye for now...........

skiing New Years' Day

I've had two wadders in a row, so I took a little break from sewing. Good thing since the Holidays were very hectic. New Years Day my husband my son his wife and their three girls went skiing. I stayed in the lodge with my 13 month old grandaughter Lauren. She slept for almost two hours. It was very very cold Saturday. I think we got up to 15 degrees. I thought I would post this little video my daughter-in-law took of my son and his girls. [{proud grandma]

I do have some things to post, I hope to have them up by Wed. Happy New Year Everyone!!!

CRAZY SELVAGE!

I know I find one pattern I love and I want to make it in everything. I found this brown polyester knit at Joann's. It just matches the brown pants I made from an old Burda pattern # 3083. This is the second time I've used this pants pattern. It hits right at your natural waist, so this time I lowered it one inch. I still have two knits I want to use for two more tops from this Vogue 8536 pattern. Hope you don't get too bored, but I love, love this knit top pattern!

I've been sewing for years now, but I have never seen a selvage quite like this one. Have you?

Vogue 7063 and BWOF 9/2009/113

I think I have found a new fav. I really love this Vogue top. It was soooo easy and is very easy to wear. I had this fabric in my stash for about three years. Yes I am really sewing from my stash. It feels really good! I made version C which has a hidden button placket which I haven't done for a while. The fabric is a slate gray polyester. I did Hong Kong finishes on the top but I chose to serge the side seams on the pants. The pants are a very and I mean very skinny leg. I did add about one inch to the overall width. Next time I might add more. I bound the waistband inside with yellow bemberg just for fun. I did not make the belt loops as long as indicated because I didn't have a belt that wide. All in all a very fun project!

This top looks cute un- tucked as well. One thing I really liked about this pattern.

My New LBD Vogue 8611

I've had this dress done for some time now, but I am soooooo behind on blogging! I found this great wool matte jersey from Fabric.com. I bought enough to make a dress and a top. I really love this fabric.
I made the size 10 but added one inch in the sleeve length. I was going to serge the seams but I didn't want a bulky edge, so I just trimmed and pressed open. I really like the inside to be as finished as the outside, but in this case it worked out great!
The only thing I would do different would be to add some back darts, but I am happy with the results. Now to find some funky tights to go with it!

cardigan

I am so behind on my blog. I have two dresses, two pair of pants, two skirts,and three tops to post. This is the cardigan I have been working on. I used my favorite t-shirt pattern Vogue8536. I found this great knit fabric at Joann's and it just screamed cardigan. I was going to put rhinestone buttons on ti but they were a little pricey so I opted for these black rather shiney buttons.
I used the pattern for the regular tee., cut it down the CF and added 3/4 inch facing. I also lowered the neckline 1/2 inch. It was pretty easy to make and goes with so many things.

Thanks so much for everyone who gave me such great cardigan pattern ideas. I bought this cardigan at a sale this summer and have loved it. I wear it with an off white Bwof skirt july issue #126. I love the skirt but it is really big. You can see it in my previous post. I really like the rhinestone buttons on this one so I am trying to copy it with the knit I bought at Joann's. I hope to have it done next week. At least that what I am shooting for.

Here is a close up of the jacket front. I used a navy blue wool gabardine , which when pressed shows all the seams ....grrrrrr!..... I had this fabric in my stash and I really wanted a navy jacket. I wish I had the zippers on the sleeve like the pattern indicated, but it looks okay without. I really had fun making this and as per Burda the instructions for the lining in the peplum were crazy, so I made that part up as I went.

cardigan pattern anyone?

I found this great sweater knit at Joann's and I just have to make a cardigan out of it. I'm thinking I'll use rhinestone buttons. What do you think? Can anyone suggest a cardigan pattern? I thought I could just use a knit top pattern and adjust it. I could use some advice.

Vogue 8409

Not a very good picture. Cranky husband! I made this about one month ago, but blogging is hard for me. I'm trying to perfect it but I am not in to technology.
I always have trouble with Vogue sleeves! Too much easy in the cap, and well they just don't fit me well . I love Vogue patterns, I just tear my hair out when I am dong the sleeves. {and I'm trying to grow out my hair!}

This is the back view. I underlined the whole dress in brown ambiance, and the armholes are bound with bias brown chiffon strips that matched pretty darn good. I hardly ever use my serger anymore. It needs to be serviced and well I just like using hong kong finishes. So fun!!

Close up view of the fabric. I have had it in my stash for about three years. It is 100% wool in a burgandy and cream pattern, sorry hard to see. I don't really care for the fabric. but you know I had it and I can't let any fabric go to waste. I would sew this again , maybe in a great double knit.

Okay I made this little number several weeks ago, but I haven't had much time for blogging. I am trying to step out of my boring box and try a few new things and well here is one. It is made from a polyester chiffon that I purchased from Joann's. It has a bit of brown in it which I wanted to go with a brown skirt that is in the works. Love this pattern!!!!! I will post a picture of me in it when I finish the skirt.

Here is a look at the collar point. The technique I used is from one of Nancy Zeiman's books, I checked out of the library once. Its called "the magic collar" It is great for sheer fabric .

Here is a close up of the neck. All the seams inside are french, and I bound the armhole seam with bias strips of the fabric.

I really have been sewing.

these very tiny pictures are a couple of things I have been working on. I finished the skirt in an off-white rayon blend. It is very big on me. I lost 29 pounds and well, I'm so used to using a size 40 , but it is big on me now. I had the pockets all on before I realized that it was to big . I was not about to undo them so it is a little big. I will post pictures of the skirt with the jacket when I finish the jacket. All I have left is to sew in the lining. I really made the other version with the peplum. I used a great navy wool gaberdine that I have had in my stash for years. It feels so good to use up some of my fabric. Pictures will follow soon. butterick 5046 in three different fabrics

I think I got a little too carried away with this pattern. I think I will retire it now. This first version I made just like the patten The other two I changed up a bit by using bias binding for the armholes and making the back a bit fuller. I like the results.

I think this one is my least favorite. You can't see the fabric very well but it's a burgandy mini-check.

I added some fullness to the back skirt to make it more flowy. The wind was blowing and it is sticking to me sorry!

I eliminated the armhole and neck facings, and sewed bias strips instead. I love this technique!

I top stitched the hem on the edge and again 1 /4 inch from hem edge. I really like this look I also cut this one fuller in the back by slashing the pattern in three different places to the seam to create more width .

I sewed bias strips of the fabric and bound the armholes for a different look. I also scooped out the armhole to make it look a little more jumper like.

Eyes half open or half shut!!

there is a gap just under the second button. Oops! I set the buttons a little wonky. Easy fix.

I've had this pattern for a while and wanted to get it done before fall. I had this fabric that I bought at Joann's, so I thought I would give it a try. I remember when I bought this fabric, I had my doubts about it but well you know it was on sale and all...But let me tell you this fabric was the pits!!!!!!! Love the color , love the tie neck, hate the fabric.. Oh well I think it looks pretty cute with white shorts.

wader skirt

You can't see it very well in this picture, but this skirt is totally off grain.
I bought this fabric online because I am trying to break out off my box and sew something different. I was in a hurry to get this skirt done because I needed to wear it somewhere. It is New Look 6854.
It is pretty basic, so I whipped it up fast. But it was too short so I bound the seam with bias tape and just barely turned it up and fused it with steam a seam. Well needless to say I put it on and the pattern in the fabric is way off. It is a stretch cotton sateen, which is great to work with and easy to wear. I was going to throw it away,but decided... What the Hay .... I'm going to wear it anyway. Which I did.
Lesson learned: don't bee in such a hurry.

I made this top out of a lightweight white linen। I used Veriform sew in interfacing on the collar and collar stand। I underlined it in white ambiance because I thought it would be too sheer। WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well lesson learned। Next time I won't underline it.

here is a picture of me in the top, with my salvaged wader skirt। That is a whole new post altogether। I really like this pattern and it was easy to make.

Vogue 8536

This is my new favorite knit shirt pattern. It is so easy. I did not want to use a double needle stitching at the hem, so I looked up the reviews of this pattern and I took Amanda's version of sewing a band at the sleeve end and at the hem. This way it eliminates the need for any topstitching. I thought with the busy pattern of the fabric it would look to busy. I really like the results.

You can't tell in the pictures but the fabric is navy and light blue. I really needed something navy, and when I found this fabric at Joann's, I fell in live with it. So did a lot of other people, because I bought the last yard.

Another Burda top. Don't ya just love Burda?? Again this is out of the box for me, but I was inspired by Amanda's version. It has all french seams and the waist seam and armhole seam are bound with bias fabric strips. Elastic at the sleeve hem. This was a very easy pattern.
One more top to post tomorrow. Happy sewing!!!

A closer look at the front. I really liked this pattern. I usually don't pick prints, but I fell in love with this fabric. A sheer polyester from Joann's. It is fun to wear with jeans and is COOL for summer.

I could not find red buttons that I liked with this, so I used wood buttons. I like how it turned out.

I must say I loved making this pattern. I added one inch to the sleeve length, and one inch to the bodice length. I used a cotton batiste I bought online, but can't remember which site. I also used fine heirloom sewing thread and used a fine needle in my machine . I used all french seams, and bound the armholes with bias strips of fabric. I have been doing alot of sewing but I am having a hard time getting things posted. I have three skirts and four tops to review. It has been great fun!!!

The pictures do not give this top justice . It is pretty cute and I love wearing it.It had a lot of bias strips to make and turn but it was a blast to make.

My gray skirt I finally finished to go with my Burda jacket. It is made out of a rayon/poly blend with a little stretch, which I don't like because the waist grows the longer I have it on. I should have used stay tape. Oh well I think I will wear this skirt a lot!!

Beachboys and a little sewing

We went to St. George Utah, two weeks ago on my husbands Harley. We went with three other couples. Lets just say GOOD TIMES!!!!!!!!! If you ever get the chance to go to Toacann , GO!!!. It is breathtaking!!.

The shirt is Vogue 2634. The skirt is Burda fashion 4/2009/101. It is kind of a boring outfit, but it is very comfortable! The skirt is very big on me. I have lost some weight ...Woo Hoo!!. I made this last fall but I didn't have it hemmed until last week. I am bad that way. I get a project almost complete, and then I move on to the next. I need to stay focused.

Late or Early???

Man what a bad hair day!!! I have had this fabric since last summer hoping to make this top for fall. Well it is -------- lets see--May? oh well I always have good intentions. I just look at it as being early for next fall. I bought this fabric online but I can't remember where. You can't tell but the polka -dots are pink. I love anything the crosses or wraps, so this pattern caught my eye. It's nothing special, but it is a good staple in your wardrobe.

I am so computer illiterate!!!!! I posted this jacket on pattern review, but could not get the pictures from my pr foto album to come up. I have two more tops and a skirt to post. I hope to have them up tomorrow{ with some help from my son} have a great day. It's snowing here again ARGGGGGGGGGG.

red BWOF jacket

I loved this jacket when I first saw it reviewed , so I thought I would give it a try. I added one inch to the overall length, so I had to add one extra button and buttonhole.

I think it looks okay with jeans, but I am going to make a dark gray skirt to go with it.
I had great plans to topstitch the heck out of this jacket, but I could not find the perfect thread. I opted to just edge stitch the collar and seams. I stitched the pockets on the edge and at 1/4th inch.

I found this fabric at Joann's. It was from the linen-like section. I wanted real linen but this was the exact color that I was looking for. It probably would have been better for a blouse It is a little flimsy, but I made it work. I cut a bias piece of muslin for a sleeve head. I had a hard time not wanting to put in a shoulder pad. I like this technique in light weight fabric.

I fell in love with this top when I first saw it, so I found this striped knit at Joann's for $6.38. What a steal!! I doesn't look exactly like the picture in the magazine but I like it anyway.I also made a navy blue one which I like better but it is in the wash.

I read the Burda instructions which are always interesting, and then decided to do my own thing. I edged the shoulder seams with bias tape to finish the edge and to stabilize the seam. I pressed the seam towards the front, and then I stitched by hand at the neck edge. It worked out pretty well.

I really have been sewing but haven't had a lot of time for blogging. This is a top I cut out in January. Two weeks ago I decided to finish it because I really needed a new top [ha,ha] I got it done and put it on to find out it was really big! I have lost 13 pounds! Yippy! I have been watching what goes in my mouth, but I broke my toe, so not to much running going on here. Anyway back to sewing. Here are a few pictures. I really like this pattern. It was very easy. The jury is still out o n the buttons. Joann's did not have a great selection in the color that I needed. I am keeping my eye out for some great ones. I am not sure if I like the sleeve on me, a little to pioneery. I think next time I will change the sleeve, but overall it was fun to make.

New Iron!!!!
I am so excited about my new iron. It steams like nobodys business! The best thing is I only paid 60$ for it. It was only used a few times and has been sitting dormant for some time. I will put it to good use.
Life has been complicated lately, but I will post a couple of things I have made tomorrow. Promise. I can't wait to catch up on what everyone else is doing!! Happy sewing all!!!!

this is a picture of our newest grandaughter. Lauren elizabeth Hunter. She weighed in at 6lbs. 10 ozs. She was a month early, but we were so glad she made it to 36 weeks. I just wanted to share her picture with you all. Hope to have some sewing posts up soon. I have hit a snag with my jacket I' m working on the collar but it does not seem to fit right. Hello all! My sewing has been non-exisitent for the past few weeks. We welcomed the arrival of a new grandaughter on the 24th. One month early, but she is very healthy and has lots of dark hair. Did I mention that she is absolutly beautiful? I will post a picture tomorrow. Our oldest grandson was named Sterling Scholar in Technology . We are so proud!! Needless to say, it was a great grandma week.I hope everyone had a great turkey day!!

I made this a while ago and have never worn it. I made the same thing two months ago in a linen print and I love it. I made the same size but it feels a little snug in the shoulders. I think maybe I forgot to add seam allowances on one of the sleeve seams. Oh well it isn't a good style on me but I still love the pattern Here are a few pictures.

Burda coat

I have been trying on my winter clothes, and they are all skin tight. I hate tight clothes on me!!! Needless to say I'm going to work on some home dec things right now and finish a quilt I'm making for my new granddaughter{ who will be here anytime} . I'm going to put a hold on my clothing sewing untill I loose some weight. I am so mad at myself that I let this weight creep up on me. But I am committed to get this off by the end on January!!!! But after saying that I need to finish my Bruda coat that I have all cut out and the interfacing fused. I found this great chocolate brown wool at Joann's. It is the prefect weight , and I have been wanting a brown coat. I think I will get it done, but I have to loose at least 8 pounds before I will feel okay in it. Here is the pattern It is an out of print Burda. I made the shirt version years ago in black and I have worn it a ton!!

I can't tell you how fun this coat was to make. It was very easy, but little time consuming! I used a teal cotton stretch sateen which I love. It was great to sew on. I used a size 14 to sew the muslin, but it was a little big ,so I sewed the final coat in a size 12. I did narrow the belt a bit so it wasn't so wide. All in all it was a really fun project. The day I started it I sewed for 4 hours straight. Haven't done that for a while, it was so fun! Pictures are below:

I wanted the belt to buckle, not tie, so I found a cheap belt in the thrift store and just cut the buckle off. It isn't very tight, so it doesn't stay very well. I need to think of something else, but it will be okay for now.

yep, i've got it! I tooK the last two days off work, but don't feel any better. I had to pay some bills online so I thought i would check in. i will have my coat posted by the weekend. It has been raining like crazy here all day. A good time to catch up on my sewing, but I think I am getting sick, so I have been very lazy today. I've been thinking about this cute rain coat for a while. I guess a day like today is a good time to get started. I have this great stretch sateen in a dark teal, I think would look great in view C. I found some really cute lining that is poka-dot at Joanns but was in to big of a hurry to get it. I hope it is still there when I get back. I'm off to start my muslin Have a great day!!!!!

When I found a pattern that had princess seams and a cap sleeve I knew i had to have it. I needed a top to go with these cute Jag shorts I bought for Hawaii. The color was a little different so I had a hard time finding fabric[ go figure] I found this quilting fabric that matched perfectly. Then I could not found buttons to match. So I settled on wood buttons. I like them better anyway. Then one thing I really like about this pattern is that it has bodice adjustments already for A_B_or C cups. Love that!!

Here is a close up of the collar. I edgestitched the collar and down the front placket.

Close up of the cap sleeve. It has some gathers at the top which I liked. I pressed the seam toward the bodice which I would not normally do , But I liked the look better. If I make this again I think I would make the sleeve a little longer. I did not make a muslin as I was in a hurry to get it done for my trip. I didn't preshrink the fabric even though it was 100% cotton, so when I washed it it shrank a little, hense the photo on my dress form . I am not good at preshrinking fabric. I know I'm bad.

I can't believe it's October. I am still having withdrawls from being in maui. It was a wonderful trip, and an even more spectacular wedding. It was very simple, but my son and new daughter-in-law seem so happy. I do have a couple of things to post and I promise to get them up tomorrow. I didn't get half of the summer things done that I wanted, but I love fall so I have to move on. Happy sewing all!!!

Do you ever feel like you go 90 miles an hour but don't get anywhere? this is how Iam feeling lately. I am getting ready to go to my son's wedding in Hawaii. That will be fun but so much has been going on in the meantime. My husband started a new job in Salt Lake City, 75 miles south of us in Logan. He loves his new job but it is a lot of driving. We are lucky he can stay at our daughter's who lives just outside of Salt Lake, and he comes home Wed. night. Our two oldest grandsons play on their High School football team. We went down to see their game friday night. They lost. It was sad. I wish I could go to all their games, but distance and work really get in the way! My sweet daughter-in-law is expecting a baby in Dec. but she is having contractions and has been put on semi- bed rest. Hard to do with a 4 year old and a two year old. since I live an hour away it is hard for me to give them the help they need. I hope it all works out, but sewing will have to be put on hold for now. I really needed a top to go with white capris. I found this fabric on Fashion Fabrics.com. I had seconds thought about the fabric when I got it but decided to go ahead with this pattern anyway. I took 3/8 inch off the gathers at the bodice because I thought it looked too boofy. I also added one inch to the total lenghth. Needless to say I have to wear a cami under it. I bought this great knit from Gorgeous Things Fabrics. I bought alot of it so I plan to make a dress out of it also. I needed something comfy to wear to Maui , that was easy and would go with white pants. I raised the neck a bit so it would cross over higher. I don't know if I like it that way. But I have plenty of fabric to make another one.

I'm almost finished with a wrap top. I ordered the fabric from Fashion Fabrics . I don't care for it now that i have it but I needed a floral top for Hawaii, to go with my white capris. I had an issue with the front band so I took it apart and I am doing it over. My husband just changed jobs, and will be working in Salt Lake City three days a week and the other two days from home. I hope I can take advantage of the nights alone to get caught up on my sewing. Still haven't decided what to make for my son's wedding. Any suggestions for a beach wedding???

I was going to make a jacket and skirt from this fabric, but after completing the jacket I thought that it was way too much of the same fabric. I didn't really want to look like a couch! I added two inches to the total length, but before I sewed the pockets on I realized that it looked to square! I shortened it to the original length and I like it much better. This jacket is meant to be cropped! It looks really weird longer. I made the size 38 which is about right for me. I added 1/2 inch under the arms. I am a bit broad in the shoulders so it does not fit well there but all in all it was a fun jacket to make.

WE returned home from our motorcycle trip on Sunday night. We packed a lot of riding in three days!. I really feel the need to get to my sewing room. I cleaned it up really good before I left . Love to sit down and sew in a clean room! I'm almost done with my jacket. If I could just find 1 hour without interruptions I could finish it. I took it to work to do press the interfacing on. [ I have great pressing equipment at work and it fuses interfacing great.] My boss looked at the fabric and thought I was recovering a chair. I must admit, It would make a great chair. Oh well, I will post my finished chair. I mean jacket on Friday. Happy sewing !!

I've almost completed my new BWOF jacket out of shabby chic linen. I was going to make a skirt out of the same fabric but I found some fabric that I like better in my stash. DH and I are going on a motorcycle trip up through Wyoming and Montana on thurs the 23rd. WOn't be back till Sunday. I'll post some picks when I get back. DH and I are on the far right.

This was my first attempt to sew a BWOF I must confess I am not a fan of tracing patterns, but the work is worth the effort! I didn't sew a muslin which I probably should have, but I'm impatient. I had to add a good 1 1/4 inches to the bodice length. Doing this made it very low! I was not comfortable with it that way so I added an inset. It's not as cute with it but I can't show the saggy girls! After reading some of the reviews, I decided to go ahead and put an invisible zipper in the back. I am glad I did. It was easy and it fits me pretty good. I want to make this again, but this time in a fun woven

I wasn't finished with my last post when my computer decided it was done{how rude!] anyway I was going to say that this is a capri outfit in a size 2T. I wanted the pants to be really big and baggy so I cut them pretty full for a size 2T. I have made this before and really liked it .I think I'm going to make it up again in different fabric. I have some cute pink paisley stretch sateen that I think will be cute. The pictures and details are below.

This is an outfit I made from a purchased Old Navy tank top. The Navy Beans logo came from my grandaughter Navy. She is our miracle baby! Well she isn't a baby , she is 11 years old. She was born at 23 weeks and weighed 1lb. 6ozs. My daughter and son-in-law along with their two sons and Navy were the 2007 National Ambassador Family for the March of Dimes. So I made this tag up for her because we call her Navy Beans. I will have to share her story sometime. Well back to the outfit.

I have been feeling out of sorts the past few weeks. I don't know why , maybe my age or hormones, or lack of, I can't put my finger on it. Well anyway my husband sent me flowers. He is the best!! Then I started feeling bad because I have nothing to feel bad about. I am so blessed. I am working on changing my attitude. I have some projects that are almost done and I hope to post them soon. In the meantime I'm going to put my flowers on my sewing studio to keep me cheered up!

I've gone to two funerals this week and it is only Wed. One was my dear freinds mother who was 90, the other a dear co-worker from 10 years ago. I hope there won't be any more for a long while. I need to take a breath and get back to happy things. like SEWING!!!!!

I whipped this number up in about one hour. It was so fun. There are quite a few reviews of this on PR, so I thought I would try it. I loved it . It was easy and it only took 1 1/4 yards of fabric. i got this at JoAnn's on the clearance table I think I paid $4.00 a yard for it. What a bargain. i posted this on PR but it came up three times I could not find how to delete a review that was not in WIP, so it looks like I really really, really, really, like this pattern. I do but not that much . HA HA. I haven't had that much time to sew this week. Life sure gets in the way of things I want to do. Maybe next week will be better.

Maui here I come

Our oldest son just got engaged.yippeee! He's 35, so it is time, and we just love his fiance.They are going to be married on the beach, at sunset, in Maui Sep. 18th. WHAT AM I GOING TO WEAR? I also found out today that there is a marathon in maui on the 20th. Boy that is awfully tempting. I don't know, what should I do lay on the beach or run a marathon? I'll have to think about it. Our third son also told us that he and his cute wife are expecting baby #3 on Christmas Day. Needless to say it has been a wonderful Mother's Day. I hope all you all had a great day as well. I finally finished this top. It has enough fabric around the middle to make a dress. It's not my favorite but I would make it again out of not so slinky of a knit. Next project is to finish a skirt to match a jacket I made in December.

Hi everyone . I finished the marathon! yea! I even placed third in my age division! It was very fun, but my planter faciitis is very bad and my calves are screaming, can't do housework, yard work or any work for that matter for a few days, Darn guess I'll have to make myself sew! Ha Ha. I'm attaching the facing to my new white pique jacket , I told myself I will finish it this week. It is turning out pretty cute, its plain but it will go with alot of outfits.
